With no studio at present I am keeping busy working on the table. Still playing with tangrams. And making my seasonal greetings cards. Also enjoying going into to Uni as an alumni to use the library and attend exhibition private views. I hope to go to some of the open lectures when possible.
Next week I hope to go sketching with a friend and so have a few projects on the go. An exhibition booked for next year and plenty to get organised before then. I am using the facilities for printing at Resort Studios in Margate which means that I can keep on printing. The suitcase is still an ongoing project etc. ...

A derative experiment.
This event was part of the project with Stella. It was in response to Nomas who is collecting images of the traditional tangram. So I decided that I would collect some too for him. At the same time I would test out some of my own ideas.
It was important to me that this event was not advertised too much but that it depended on the demographics of the situation and place; Also the unexpected. It turned out to be a very busy day!
I have logged the installation. And there is a film to be edited ...

I have now been looking at the Chinese Tangram and am now working on ideas using puzzles.
This is in response to Nomas.

Boboko
I have been doing research about Sundanese Boboko rice containers as part of the collaboration with an Indonesian artist Nomas Kurnia. The Boboko is considered to be part of the macrocosm
of Sundanese culture. It symbolises perfection of conduct and is constructed
using three basic shapes, the cube, the sphere and the cone or the square the
circle and the triangle. It originally was used to serve steamed rice (rice being associated with the myth of the Goddess of Rice) but today other foods are served in it.
This has already resulted in two new pieces as part of my thinking process and research. I want to develop further a sequence of objects in response to this beautiful container and the research that it has led me to.
Above six knives and six hands
This project is guided and initiated by an MA curatorial student at UCA. It is a brave and interesting project. We have been having a three way conversation on Facebook and this is very experimental for all of us. It is exciting.

Moving Space
Here is my new space and the beginnings of a piece that I am working on. Defiantly not finished. It sits behind a frame which has attachments and will evolve. I cannot put things on the wall in this space so am working on the floor. There are still uncertainties about the future of the building; my old space has been filled with wood and is now transformed into an enclosed unit for business type lettings.
Tomorrow I will do some printing onto the canvas. I am also working on a piece for an MA curatorial student graduating this year at UCA. This really is interesting; the work has stemmed from communication with an artist in Indonesia. A conversation that started with a suitcase which was an obvious link for me! The deadline for this project is mid August.
Next week I have to install my work in a collective exhibition at the Horsebridge gallery in Whitstable using work that I did at UCA. If I have enough space it will be a painting and two prints. Then the following week The Fishslab gallery has a fund raising exhibition 'A4 Anonymous'. I have done two small pieces for that. It has been creative to have more than one thing on the go and reassuring that I can work post graduation.

HURRAH
3. I have just settled into a studio space - however due to changes to rate status and lease I might have to move out again!
4. I am working towards having work in a couple of local exhibitions.
And apart from that I am trying to get my home back in order. So many course notes and artworks to sort out and then there is the housework that has been neglected this last final year of study.

Whitstable Satallite programme
Last weekend I held my satellite event. It was brilliant. Maybe not as busy as I hoped but a really nice selection of visitors and some good discussions. Something that I would like to do again. Maybe in the winter?
Use the links below to find out more about this years Satellite program. Perhaps more importantly check out the actual Biennale program. It is full of interesting and varied events.

To find out more about the Whitstable Biennale here is the link. It is well worth a visit. http://www.whitstablebiennale.com/
I have to mention a side event. Whether it was planned to coincide with the Biennale I don't know but it was the official unveiling of the Brian Haw memorial bench on the beach. And would you believe it Mark Wallinger and Chester Lang the director and maker of the film War Matters were there as well as Brian Haw's children. There was a showing on the film afterwards with speeches. I really recommend this film. Of cause in true Whitstable style; barrows, bins and bicycle baskets of flowers arrived as a back drop to the event on the beach. 'Whitstable in Flower' Competition! 'flower power' I rather think that it was timed to impress!

Degree show piece
My degree piece is really difficult to photograph as it is opposite a staircase. To give an idea of scale the light over the picture is approximately 5meters high.
It has been a very busy time. Getting business cards printed and organising an event as part of the Whitstable Biennale Satellite program which will take place the day after our Private View. Nearly all done!

Dylan Shipton - Artist in residence
Dylan Shipton is spending time as artist in residence in Uni over the period of our degree show. It will be possible to see a collaborative work done with a group of students if you come to our Degree Show! Today a few of us went down to Limbo Arts in Margate to see how his installation Punishment Park was progressing and to discuss the installation process.
The private view for this exhibition is this Friday at Limbo.
Next week some students will aid and collaborate with Dylan in installing a shelf installation. I have made an 'object' to be included in this. (a task given to us by Dylan)

Pre degree show
I am experiencing the frantic last few days to get my piece completed, also get the statement written and the research work done. Full on!
Pretty well everything in this photo has been altered in one way or another! This was taken at the very beginning of the installation process. I will post a picture of the work after the PV on 30th May!

Dissertation results in
At last the agony of not knowing is over. I passed and with a good grade so I am very happy. Listen all you dyslexics out there. You might have to work twice as hard and the bibliography might drive you insane but with determination you can do it. I got an A grade. (a high or low one I don't know) but if I can do it after all these years ... it is worth the effort. I should mention that I did have some support.
I enjoyed my subject. 'How shrines relate to Contemporary Art Practice'. Now I can work on my degree show project without worrying.
My proposal for Le Havre nature reserve was not accepted. Somehow I am relieved as it would have been very close to the Whitstable Biennale which starts the day after our Private View on 30th May.
Note this diary date!

return to Rouen
A return to this magical Art College campus; 'L'ESADHaR' in Rouen. This time to see, and to take down our work exhibited in the exhibition Cathedrals 1914-2014. Somewhat different from our brief historically but no worries! Mine was exhibit no 1. and I really liked the installation. A good antidote to a very fine exhibition at the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rouen. Free and well worth a visit. A beautifully curated exhibition
Entrance to the college above and below the campus
Below my small print
Below is a taste of this beautiful medieval town. Sadly this was bombed during the 2nd world war.

pre-degree show
It has been hectic trying to finish off things and move out of the studio space in preparation for setting up the degree show. As I am off to Rouen tomorrow early I had to clear my space by the end of the day. Luckily we can go into the studio to work during the holidays! Last week was also a week of experimentation and I am now excited about new ideas.
Also last week I found this beautiful woodpecker beside the road. It must have been hit by a passing vehicle. So sad. Perhaps will incorporate it into a shrine or make a shrine to it. But first I have to clean it out which I do not think that I have the time and courage to do at present.

Auction Results
We reached over £2,500 for the funding of our catalogue and degree show. The event was a great success but I was so busy I forgot to take photographs!
Sorry for the short post ... a tweet really!
I will hunt out a picture for later. Uni is manic. I have to start moving out of my studio on Wednesday to start the installation process for the degree show. Time is going too quickly!

Student Auction
We are all preparing for our annual student auction which is a fundraiser for our degree show catalogue. I am helping on the auction team. Everyone is encouraged to enter a piece of work and I have done an A2 print. I am also going to enter a linocut print.
Let's hope that we succeed in raising enough funds!

Going domestic!
These are on thick canvas and I am now going to see how it works with a calico canvas (thinner). More experiments! still working on the film but encountering some problems with the new program.

More experiments.
I have been experimenting with installations in the corridor outside of the studio. There are two works evolving here! More work to be done.
And now a carpet is becoming part of the equation.
and I am making a cast of the car tyre!
