Stanley's Fishmongers

This wonderful little fishmongers have hung the painting that I did at the beginning of last year, in their shop.
If you are in the high street in Whitstable, Kent,  pass by and take a look while you buy some of their fresh fish!

Canterbury Student Market

Tomorrow it is the Canterbury Student Market in the main High Street. I have been to the Hello Print Studio in Margate to quickly print some Lino blocks that I did while I was in Mexico.

'Hello Print' is a great facility.  Here are some of my Lino prints. I am still in the process of wrapping and packing up everything for tomorrow. This time I have focused on simple black and white prints.

It was a very successful  day. I had taken some of my lino blocks, and tools with me, and it was interesting how many people came to the stand staying that they had  the equipment to do lino cuts somewhere in their homes, but hadn't seen them for years. Hopefully they will get their tools out now, and have a go themselves! The above tree I did in Mexico!

MEXICO

Well, the suitcase did travel to Mexico!

And back again.....

With a few additions from Mexico!

(This is a late addition to this post) I have just found this link to an exciting project in Germany.

Before packing up the suitcase

It occurred to me that some of you might want to know what this was all about. The research is ongoing. At Crate I was exploring narrative and testing ownership by letting the public install the work. The ever changing narrative was of interest to me. As people had to abide by a strict rule of operating with in the limitations of moving or installing only one object decision making played its part.
'The intention here is to explore the possibilities, and perimeters for exhibiting, and installing a travelling exhibition.
When I got back to Crate on Saturday people had been busy! This is what I found:

And now it is all packed away waiting for its next outing soon.

Come As You Go - My Travelling Exhibition

This is how  My Travelling Exhibition started off.
The installation began with the curator Aine Belton
It then developed to this in the private view with others participating
Then this happened

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ‘ THE TRAVELERS EXHIBITION’

Objects in the suitcase can be displaced and replaced to create an on-going installation and changing narrative.

Each one of you is invited to choose an object from the suitcase and install it in the room where the suitcase is located.
In order to do this you might want to use the hammer/stone and a nail. You might want to use a hook already in place, or you might choose a flat surface.

If the suitcase is empty, or if you prefer, you can alter the location or position of an exhibit already on display, always remaining in the room where the suitcase is located. You may also move the position of the suitcase within the perimeters of the room.
If you are unsure which objects form part of The Traveller’s Exhibition you can refer to the inventory located in the suitcase and at the entrance to Crate.
Please use the white gloves when handling the prints, and replace them in the suitcase after use.

Other artists may contribute to my travelling exhibition during its outing at Crate, however works will have to:

·      Fit into the suitcase
·      Be labelled clearly stating the artists name, also the venue and date that it was added to the collection.
·      Comply with HM customs rules.

Please use the white gloves when handling the prints and replace them in the suitcase after use.

-----------------

THE EXHIBITION CONTINUES TO EVOLVE TOMORROW AT CRATE MARGATE, and then at the end of the day it all gets packed back into the suitcase (shelf and all) where it will travel to Mexico and France this year.
