Passing Time

The show is up and changes have been made. I am pleased with the orange reflexions created. The subtile reflexions of the studio windows in the last post have been lost.

Sadly the true colour and detail does not come out in the photo.

Passing Time

Passing time is a group exhibition of comrades who worked together on the Access course at UCA Canterbury in 2010. We went on to  graduate with a Fine Art Honours degree at UCA.

I am working on a piece in my studio. It is somewhat site specific and will have to adapt to the lighting and environment of the Gallery where it will be shown.

Studio photo 2

I might say that the concept of this piece has had to adapt due to peer pressure! The original work was going to be a gold fish in a bowl which was deemed to be too provocative. It has brought up certain issues…

Skin Exhibition

SKIN is an exhibition of art by women artists who have responded to the theme of skin. The entries for this expo were selected by a panel including gallery director David Lilford of Lilford Galleries.
(I will update the photographs later. This gives an idea of my two pieces).
One is responding to ageing and the appearance of skin, also taking into consideration that colour can just be a façade to how a person might perceive themselves.

The other piece is political exploring the power of the written and spoken word and how they can mask and manipulate. The porcelain needles are used as a metaphor. I hope that the viewer will feel free to interpret the works subjectively.

Open studio, A4 Fishslab fundraiser and A1 Exhibition at the Horsebridge; plus work in progress for the Skin open exhibition.

A normal busy summer taking part in Art events locally.

During my exhibition at the Fishslab (photos in my last post) I also had a piece of work in the Fishslab collective exhibition (second from last post) an exhibition of work done by the artists that run the Fishslab Gallery.

After that preparation for open studio weekend, also to finish completion of two A4 canvas's for the Fishslab fund raiser. Not to mention to take a piece down to the Horsebridge for their open A1 exhibition.

                                          open studios
                                          open studios
                                          New print for open studios

I am now working on two more conceptional pieces for the Skin exhibition that I hope will be selected for this show at the end of the month. Work in progress.

Then on to work on a piece (or two) for the Access 10 exhibition 'Passing Time' in mid September.

NEXT YEAR I WILL DO LESS !!!!

Miscellany

Process and materiality was the strong link that brought us all together as well as friendship. Susanna Woodrolfe and Mirium Ellis exhibited their ceramics and Sarah Lankester her wood carvings and woodcut prints and I showed dry point and silkscreen prints.

Bad organisation this year on my part! I have work in two group exhibitions this week. Here is the piece at the Horsebridge Gallery. Each day I am adding or changing the installation slightly!

Whitstable Biennale Satellite programme

As part of this years Whitstable Biennale Satellite program I have created an event. http://satellite.whitstablebiennale.com/project/process-and-performance/

Prints etc.

Catching up on my blog after having to take a brief health break.

There are two veins in my working practice. They fall into the
categories of Conceptual assemblage and Printmaking.
In this exhibition I have focused on the printmaking aspect of my
artistic practice. The linocut trees highlight my interest and love for
trees and are part of a larger project that I hope to complete in a
few years time. The silkscreen works relate to my fine art practice
that revolves around creating a narrative that responds to a
situation, a subject or an environment.

After a break from lino printing and my trees I have got back on track to do this linocut of a Walnut tree… more to come!
